Getting To Queen Charlotte Islands

The Queen Charlotte Islands are located off the coast of British Columbia, Canada just south of Alaska. Two Islands, Graham Island to the north and Moresby Island to the south, comprise the majority of the land mass. Sandspit, Gateway to Gwaii Haanas, is located on the northeastern tip of Moresby Island. The town has a population of 300 and is the only settlement on Moresby Island. The Sandspit Airport is located on the largest area of flat land on Moresby Island, which protrudes out between Hecate Strait and Shingle Bay.

There are two ways to get to Sandspit, by Air or by Sea.

Passports are required by both Canada and the United States!

Air Travel

There are two options when traveling by air; personal/corporate charter or commercially by Air Canada.

We have access to discounted "Lodge Fare" rates. Our guests work directly with our travel agency, Uniglobe River City Travel, located in Campbell River BC. Uniglobe has secured preferred rates with Air Canada from locations throughout the US and Canada to Vancouver and on to Sandspit. These rates cannot be found online or in the US. Only select travel agencies in BC can offer these rates.

Air Canada Baggage Requirements

Checked baggage

Air Canada allows two pieces of checked baggage at no extra charge.

The overall measurement of each piece (L + W + H) must be less than 62 inches or 158 cm, and the weight less than 50 lbs. or 23 kgs. Baggage which is over the weight limit will be charged an additional amount. Note that checked baggage weighing more than 100 lbs. or 45 kgs. will not be accepted.

Carry-on baggage

Air Canada allows two pieces of carry-on luggage.

Items that fall within the 2-piece carry-on allowance include: Carry-on bags or suitcases (wheels and handles included in the size), briefcases, laptop computers, diaper bags, camera cases, cartons or other similar items.

Standard article, maximum weight of 22 lbs, 23cm x 40cm x55cm, personal article, maximum weight 22 lbs, 16cm x 33cm x 43cm.

Airport agents, especially in Sandspit, strongly enforce carry-on luggage size and weight restrictions. Oversized carry-on bags cause many flight delays and result in excess charges.

Hotels

	Delta Hotel - is minutes from the Vancouver Airport and located on the Fraser River. It features a marina-side restaurant and riverside trails.
	Fairmont Hotel - is conveniently located in the Vancouver Airport and offers a full service spa and signature restaurant.
	Sheraton - is minutes from the Vancouver Airport and located near a variety of shops and restaurants in downtown Richmond.
